I run scheduled courses which you can simply join as a individual. These courses take place on Zoom.
I also run group sessions for schools, nurseries, the care sector, institutions and companies. These are by arrangement and can be customised to meet your organisation’s requirements. They can be convened at your premises on dates that suit you and sessions can be online or in-person as required. Face to face workshops can be delivered throughout Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex.

Makaton taster
These short sessions are designed for people who are interested in finding out about Makaton and deciding whether to attend Makaton training.
The Taster gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is and who uses it, with the opportunity to learn a few signs (about 30) and symbols too.
Participants receive handouts covering the vocabulary they have learned and general information regarding further Makaton training and Makaton resources.

Makaton Level 1
Level 1 training is the starting point for learning Makaton. The course will provide you with knowledge about and understanding of the Makaton language programme, including how you will be able to use Makaton to support children and adults with communication difficulties. It introduces how you can start using Makaton in everyday situations at home and at work as well as giving you hints and tips for effective signing.
It is recommended for both professionals as well as parents and family members.
It includes Stages 1 and 2 and some of the additional vocabulary. This includes vocabulary for immediate needs and to establish interaction as well as vocabulary about home, familiar people, objects, food, events and activities.
Many people find this training so inspiring that they want to go onto Level 2.
You will receive a Participant's Manual which includes the presentation materials as well as all the signs and symbols for the vocabulary covered in the workshop. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Makaton Level 2
Level 2 training builds on the knowledge you gained in Level 1 training and gives participants a more detailed knowledge about using and applying Makaton to develop the communication skills of others
You will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4, and the rest of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary. This includes vocabulary about the outside world, animals, fruit, vehicles, actions, attributes, locations, school, work, people, pronouns and spatial location and some additional vocabulary.
You must have completed Level 1.
The course is suitable for both parents and professionals in education, health care and business.
You will receive a Participant's Manual which includes the presentation materials as well as all the signs and symbols for the vocabulary covered in the workshop. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Makaton Level 3
The Level 3 Makaton course helps you improve and develop your signing and symbol skills. It moves your signing skills on to a more advanced level. You practise signing conversations and develop sign production techniques.
You will revise the signs and symbols you learned in your Level 1 and 2 training and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 5 and 6 of the Core Vocabulary. These include community, people, places, interests, attributes and feelings.
You must have completed Levels 1 & 2 to attend Level 3.
The course is suitable for both parents and professionals in education, health care and business.
You will receive a Participant's Manual which includes the presentation materials as well as all the signs and symbols for the vocabulary covered in the workshop. You will also receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Makaton Level 4
This course completes the learning of the core vocabulary signs and symbols. We concentrate on developing your Makaton skills through further development of interpretation and translation in addition to looking at advanced techniques for adapting and using Makaton. You will learn how to use and apply Makaton to develop the communication skills of others.
You will revise signs and symbols from previous workshops and learn stages 7 & 8 from the core vocabulary which you learned in your Level 1, 2 and 3 training. Vocabulary in your Level 4 workshop includes number, time, weather, quantity, money, leisure interests, feelings and casual relationships.
You must have completed Levels 1 , 2 & 3 to attend Level 4.
The course is suitable for both parents and professionals.

Makaton signing for babies
is for parents, family members or carers who would like to sign with babies and children in their care and have no previous experience of Makaton. These sessions are designed for you and your child to have fun and learn together.
Makaton Signing for Babies training is a series of sessions designed to encourage the development of communication and language skills in babies and toddlers. All the sessions are fun and interactive for you and your child. You will learn approximately 100 signs and symbols using songs, games and activities.
You will receive a Makaton Signing for Babies Pocket Book which has the signs and symbols you have learned during the sessions. You will also be given a certificate of attendance. POA

Watch my needs workshop
is for people who are suffering with memory impairment. Watch My Needs is aimed at people who have been diagnosed with a 'memory impairment' such as dementia, Alzheimer's or have suffered a stroke etc. It focusses on daily needs and will be delivered over 5 sessions to the diagnosed person and their main carer. No prior knowledge required. POA

Makaton Approaches to Safeguarding workshop
is designed to support professionals and carers of children and adults with severe communication and learning disabilities. The workshop builds on existing knowledge of signs and symbols and provides instruction for extra signs and symbols specific to this area of need and access to further resources.
Participants are invited to consider differing protocols and practice. Activities of the workshop will enable participants to consider how the vocabulary may be safely applied to promote communication for people who use Makaton within a range of levels and contexts.
This unique workshop provides signs and symbols for a range of vocabulary covering a number of topics: People: family, relationships and people around us, places, body parts and clothes Feelings: feelings, thoughts and behaviours (including bullying and abuse) Sexual behaviour
Note: participants on this course will have to have attended a Level 1 and 2 course to access this training. POA

Frontline workshop - Emergency Services
Have you ever thought how difficult it must be for the emergency services when their casualty has difficulty communicating and how frightening an emergency is for them. Here at last, an opportunity for the bs to learn to communicate with people with learning and/or communication difficulties – those unable to speak for themselves.
This workshop is aimed at professionals from Emergency Services background including paramedics, police, the fire service and coastguards It is a 3 hour workshop which can be delivered in a flexible manner to equip professionals with everyday vocabulary to communicate with people with communication difficulties. You will also be taught bespoke signs and symbols for the Emergency Services which can be used in a variety of crisis situations.
This course is suitable for Police, Fire Service, all medical practitioners, accident and emergency staff, nurses and doctors.

Frontline workshop - Wellbeing
This workshop has been designed to equip participants with the skills to use Makaton effectively, to check on general wellbeing and to enable Makaton users to talk about their mental health, feelings and wishes.
Ideal for staff working in schools, colleges, care home, day services and community organisations.
This workshop will aid compliance with the accessible information standard as well as demonstrating inclusive approaches to communication which should be promoted by every organisation as part of their their Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.
All Frontline Workshops teach 36 everyday vocabulary signs and symbols,
plus an additional 46 bespoke signs and symbols tailored for each specific workshop,
dependant on requirements of customer.

Church & Faith based Makaton - Know & Grow
Are our churches really inclusive? Can we make our church services easier to understand for those people with communication difficulties? This 1 day workshop is an opportunity for those who want to know how to make churches more accessible to people with learning disabilities and communication difficulties through the use of Makaton and recognise the difficulties they face.
